Safety Updates
Welcome to our Safety Updates. Through sharing knowledge and best practices we aim to keep flying safe at E-Flight Academy. If you have safety information to share, email scmm@eflight.nl.
-
Avoiding collisions & filing airprox reports
Vigilant lookout, proactive announcements, early action. Always file an airprox report after evasive action. -
Near propstrike on the apron — brief guests on propeller risks
Camera crew approached aircraft to ~1 metre while engine was live. Always brief guests on propeller risks before opening doors. -
Battery cooling liquid cap missing during pre-flight
Coolant low; filler cap not installed. Until further notice, pilots may not refill coolant themselves — call maintenance. -
Forced go-around — always land with more than 30% SOC
Velis was forced to go around after slower aircraft landed full stop. Plan landings with >30% SOC to handle the unexpected. -
Incident reporting guidelines — if you spot it, report it
All damage, no matter how minor, must be reported via SMS and the aircraft technical log. Collective responsibility. -
Flap overspeed prevention & response (Velis)
Velis flap limits: F1 81 kts, F2 65 kts. Monitor airspeed, don't rely on noise. Crosswind landings: consider reduced flaps. -
Towbar still attached during taxi (PH-BRI)
Aircraft taxied with towbar still on the nosewheel. PH-BRI is the only E-Flight aircraft using a towbar — always disconnect immediately after towing. -
Winter operations preparedness — cold weather flying
Velis winter kit, battery pre-heat, defogging, bird migration awareness, slippery platforms. Plan extra prep time. -
Go-around procedure at EHTE — turn south over the taxiway
EHTE's go-around: slight turn south, position over taxiway, continue climb on take-off leg. Local airmanship, not in AIP. -
Runway Approach Deviation — When 26 Isn't 08
Crew entered RWY26 circuit while RWY08 was active. Watch for confirmation bias on long flying days. -
Updated flight preparation checklist available
New checklist covers weather, NOTAMs, route planning, and essential pre-flight items. Available at campus and online. -
AirProx downwind EHTE — vigilance during circuit joining
Recent AirProx during circuit merge from Sierra to downwind RWY26 — extra vigilance required as traffic increases.
