Recent AirProx during circuit merge from Sierra to downwind RWY26 — extra vigilance required as traffic increases.
Background
During circuit merging from Sierra, a soloist came too close to an aircraft already flying downwind for RWY26, forcing the pilot to take evasive action. The pilot submitted an AirProx report after landing, but did not contact E-Flight Academy directly — we only became aware of the incident a month later. The case is currently under investigation by the aviation authority.
Key points
AirProx events must be reported to E-Flight Academy directly, in addition to filing the formal AirProx report
Spring/summer brings busier airspace — extra vigilance required
Consciously observe radio traffic after changing the frequency to EHTE Radio
Circuit merging is a high-risk phase — slow down and build the radio picture before joining
Required actions
Report any AirProx event to E-Flight Academy immediately after landing (do not wait)
When merging into the circuit, fully establish the radio picture before joining
If unsure of other traffic position, request confirmation on the radio
Use landing lights to improve visibility — our white aircraft are hard to spot
