Who is this training intended for?

Have you got a pilot's licence and do you enjoy flying, but want to further develop your skills to become an even better pilot who can fly in even more conditions? Then the Night Rating Training is ideal for you!

A difference like night and day
During the Night Training, you will learn night flying according to the Visual Flight Rules (VFR), which means learning to fly by visual reference in the dark. This requires a completely new set of skills you can really sink your teeth into. You will learn to work with different visual references and interpret instruments in reduced visibility. This not only improves your navigation and emergency procedures, but also makes you a better pilot - a difference like day and night ;). On top of that, you get to enjoy the fantastic views during your night flights over illuminated cities and beneath clear, starry skies.

You get more out of your licence
In short, a night rating lets you get more out of your licence and increases your flexibility, as you’re no longer limited to daylight hours only. Weather conditions are often better at night too, with less wind and thermal activity. What’s more, it’s a good investment in your career, since night flying experience is often a requirement for commercial pilots.

Please note: training is not possible with our electric aircraft, as they do not have lighting. Naturally, we offset all CO2 emissions through our partner TreeByTree.

    Contents of this training

    • The price includes VAT, up to 25 landings, fuel, and instruction. If more landings are needed or if extra hours are flown because certain exercises need to be repeated, this will be charged based on actual costs.
    • You will receive 3 hours of theoretical training for the Night (A) qualification.
    • 5 hours of night flight time in a Single Engine Piston (our electric aircraft do not have lighting, so we use our fuel-powered model for this training. We fly on MoGas and the CO2 emissions is of course compensated.)
    • 4 hours of flying with an instructor.
    • 1.5-hour cross-country navigation flight with one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km (27 NM).
    • 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo full-stop landings.
    • There is no Skill Test or Assessment of Competence required; completion is demonstrated by completing the training through a course completion and an entry by the Head of Training in the logbook.
    • Although there is no exam, an licence endorsement amendment must still be requested from KIWA to have the Night Rating added. The cost is around €120.

The criteria for starting the Night Rating

    • Candidates must hold at least a PPL(A) or LAPL(A).
    • A valid medical certificate is required.
    • LAPL holders must have completed basic IR training required for the issuance of the PPL before they begin night training. If this is not the case, students must fly the relevant flights from the E-Flight PPL(A) training syllabus as stated in the PPL(A) Training Manual.

    Frequently asked questions

    • How long does the Night(A) course normally take?
The course can be completed in 2 to 3 evenings, but this may vary depending on the student's availability.
    • What is the maximum time allowed to complete the Night(A) training?
The training must be completed within a maximum period of 6 months.
    • If I do not meet the required standards within the minimum time, what happens?
If the required standards are not met within the allocated time, you will need to repeat part or all of the training flight. This may lead to an extension of the course duration and additional costs. You will be kept well informed about this by the instructor
    • Is the described flight training the minimum required?
Yes, the training in the manual shows the minimum required training. Each training flight must meet a certain standard before you move on to the next flight.
    • What happens if I do not complete the Night(A) training within 6 months?
If the training is not completed within 6 months, you may no longer meet the requirements to exercise PPL aeroplane privileges in VFR conditions at night. In that case, consult your instructor for the next steps.

    Training location

The training starts (depending on the season due to daylight hours and weather conditions) from Teuge Airport, but will mainly take place from an airfield where night flying is permitted, such as Lelystad or Stadtlohn. In summer, there are fewer airfields available for night flying than in autumn and spring. Most night-flying training therefore takes place in autumn/spring. If the daylight period, compared with Teuge’s opening hours, allows take-off from Teuge just before dark, then the flight to the training airfield is part of the night navigation. If this is not possible (depending on the season), you will first carry out a day VFR navigation flight with an instructor to the training airfield of your choice (and back again after the course). These flights are not part of the night-flying course and therefore also fall outside the package. It is, however, great fun and very educational to do this again as well! In consultation, we decide whether to return to Teuge after the night flight or stay overnight near the training location. This is, of course, always dependent on preferences and circumstances. The Night Rating is therefore always organised in close consultation with our planning team.

Overigens, the training site may also be chosen by the student and, if desired, can also take place in other countries. We would be happy to provide a cost overview if you are interested.

    Arrange a date and time

After your order, we willij contact us. We will then send you the information and all possible dates on which you can schedule the lessons. Of course, it may happen that the weather is not favorable and we have to reschedule a lesson. We always let you know as soon as possible.

    Take lessons at the weekend

That’s possible, we’re open every day. Please keep in mind that airports charge higher landing fees at weekends. That is why this training is more expensive during this period if you want lessons at the weekend.
