Make your Single Engine Piston/Power Class Rating current again at E-Flight Academy.

Who is it for?

Do you have a LAPL or higher? Or are you an airline pilot but your SEP rating is no longer current? Then take the Single Engine Piston Renewal course with us. You will do the training on our Pipistrel Explorer piston engine, the Bristell B23 or the fully electric Pipistrel Velis.

Note! It is difficult to say how many lessons are needed to reach the required level for the test flight. The numbers mentioned are the minimum. The prices listed are for the flight portion only. The theory lessons are invoiced separately. It is best to first contact us to estimate how this training would look in your situation; then we can make a tailor-made quote for you.

Practical

  • At least 2 flight lessons of 1 hour on the Pipistrel Explorer or the Bristell B23, or 3 flight lessons of 45 minutes on the Pipistrel Velis.
  • An exam is required for both types (fuel/electric) if you want to continue flying both types
  • Landings charged afterwards
  • 1 hour aircraft hire (1 Virus flight or possibly 2 Velis flights) for the test flight (if longer is needed this will be charged afterwards)
  • Do you need more lessons? Then you pay per extra lesson charged afterwards.

Theory

During the practical training some theory is also covered. Allow for 8 hours of theory with the instructor and 8 hours of home study. During the exam the theoretical knowledge will be assessed orally by the examiner.

Good to know

  • A single engine class rating can be obtained on an electric model or a fuel model. If you want to be able to fly both variants we recommend first obtaining the SEP class rating on the fuel model and then doing the E-conversion to our electric model. The E-conversion does not require an exam. If you choose to obtain the SEP class rating on an electric aircraft you may not automatically fly a fuel model afterwards and vice versa.
  • For an SEP class rating you must already hold a valid LAPL or PPL. A higher licence such as CPL or ATPL is of course also acceptable.
  • For LAPL holders, in addition to the 'dual' SEP practical training, 10 solo takeoffs and landings must also be completed under instructor supervision. For this a flight of one and a half hours is planned (Virus) or two flights of 45 minutes (Velis). Let us know when this applies.
  • You must hold a medical certificate of at least class 2.
  • The examiner and exam fees are not included in the price. Landing fees during the exam are also not included. These will be charged after the exam.
  • The above practical programme is the minimum number of hours. Depending on your situation more training may be required.
  • If you want to fly both piston and electric after the training you must keep the validity for both. Unfortunately there is no 'cross-crediting' in the legislation for this.
  • If you have ever held an SEP but let it lapse and now want to make it valid again, please contact us for more info. This also applies if you need to do a training flight for 'revalidation'. Often a modified syllabus is possible.
  • You are responsible for applying for the licence amendment with KIWA. We will help you get started.

I always had this little desire to "fly a plane". We don't have this opportunity in India (unless you sign up for the full license training etc). Last week, when I visited Netherlands, my son recommended E-Flight academy. I had booked the class for the day I arrived. However the weather was not good and the school rescheduled it to another day. We drove down from Amsterdam and were greeted by the trainer. Warm welcome, coffee, and explained about the aircraft, the controls and other aspects. I got into the plane and was guided superbly by the trainer - to the extent that I could do most of the actions - taxi, takeoff, some of the maneuvering (stall, 360 turn, go up down, fly along the river etc). Landing was done by the trainer and followed by a debrief. Personally, a superb experience - the school, the staff who managed the appointment, the trainer and the actual flying !

I fly as an instructor on the same type of electric plane back home in Norway, so when I visited the area I just had to do a quick flight with E-Flight. This school is nothing other than impressive. The details put the dot over the i. They even have their own solar panels on the roof. Both the instructor and the rest of the staff are super welcoming and friendly, and skilled. The Velis Electro is an awesome airplane, quiet and comfortable - and E-Flights instructors make this into a great experience. Highly recommended! Thank you for being awesome, and thank you for helping bring electric aviation to the World, E-Flight!

My son (16) flew (himself!) with a seasoned E-Flight Academy instructor and could not stop talking about it on the way back home. Don't think this is just a fun attraction though, they are serious about flying. And take you serious. Even in this introductionary flight he got to learn a lot about the procedures, the plane, the avionics. And of course it is also great fun! It was a wonderful afternoon. And since it was an electric flight and E-flight Academy creates their own solar energy it was silent and clean! Thank you so much, we wish you many successes in pioneering the future of flight!

I did a trial lesson here and it was an amazing experience! The aircraft are brand new, the instructor was great and I could control the aircraft for most of the flight, doing some really interesting manoeuvres. It was also a good opportunity to learn more about electric aircraft.

Last Thursday I went flying at E-flight academy in Teuge to try out a class on the Pipistrel velis electro, I was really looking forward to flying an electric plane as its something new and innovative. The instructor was very friendly and gave a great explanation of the basics. While in the air the instructor still demonstrated some manoeuvres such as a stall and sharp turns. When it was my turn to fly I made some turns and went flying around the clouds, it was great! Overall I would say give it a try, flying electric is also a lot quieter.
