Who is this training for?
Are you a pilot who wants to pass on your skills to a new generation of aviators? Do you want to be trained in the most sustainable way, with the newest aircraft and the most progressive flight school there is? Then the Flight Instructor (FI) Course at E-Flight Academy is really something for you!
Take the FI course at E-Flight Academy
At E-Flight Academy we train you to become an FI(A) (Flight Instructor Aeroplanes) through excellent training. The training is of high quality and you fly mainly with the newest electric aircraft, which provides a unique learning experience. You take the entire training at E-Deck, our hangar at Teuge with good briefing rooms, excellent coffee and great atmosphere.
Content of this training
The E-Flight Academy Flight Instructor (FI(A)) course training consists of the following components:
-
31.5 hours of flight instruction, of which:
- 26.5 hours DUAL instruction.
- 5 hours Mutual flying (two candidates fly together to practice flight demonstrations, or in case of one candidate together with an FI(FI) as DUAL flight instead of mutual flying). -
Technical Phase (Phase 1):
Focus on technical skills of the student instructor including:
- High-level aircraft control.
- Efficient and accurate demonstration of exercises.
- Providing direct and indirect coaching to students, monitoring student performance and taking notes.
- Acquiring all necessary knowledge to teach the PPL student the required theory for flying and acting as PIC.
- Conducting long/short/pre- and post-briefings in a structured, complete and relevant manner. -
Non-Technical Phase (Phase 2):
- Shift of focus to the human factors of an instructor interacting with a student.
- Different types of students are played by the course instructor, both in technical and non-technical aspects of human/student behavior.
- Continuous assessment of the PPL student, acting on progress or lack thereof, finding the necessary level of human interaction, etc. -
Both flight phases are concluded with a Progress Check (PC). The PC of phase 2 is preceded by a Progress Test (PT).
- The price includes VAT, all landings, fuel and instruction. If more landings are needed or when extra hours are flown because certain exercises need to be repeated, this will be charged on a post-calculation basis
The criteria to start the Flight Instructor Course
- Minimum Age: At least 17 years at the start of the course. To obtain the FI(A) certificate you must be 18.
- License Requirements: Hold a CPL(A) or ATPL(A), or a PPL(A) with a passed theoretical knowledge course for CPL(A), without completing the CPL(A) state examinations.
Valid SEP Class Rating.
E-Conversion: For training in electric aircraft, the E-Conversion course must be completed. More about this E-Conversion.
Be authorized to act as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) during the flight instruction course.
Have received at least 10 hours IR instruction in aircraft (included in CPL courses, but not or only partially in PPL courses). PPL(A) holders must demonstrate this with their (digital) logbook, of which a maximum of 5 hours instrument ground time in an FSTD may be included.
VFR Cross-Country Flight Experience: Have completed 20 hours VFR cross-country flight as PIC in aircraft.
-
Total Flight Time: 170 hours total flight time as pilot on aircraft, of which:
- At least 150 hours as PIC;
- At least 30 hours on Single Engine Piston experience, of which minimum 5 hours in the 6 months prior to the pre-entry flight test;
- A VFR cross-country flight as PIC, including a flight of at least 540 km (300 NM) with full-stop landings at 2 different airports.
Language Proficiency: Speak fluent English (LPE level 4).
Successfully complete a specific pre-entry flight test with a qualified FI within 6 months prior to the start of the course, to assess suitability for the course. This flight is included in the training. Should you not pass this pre-entry flight test, it will be charged as a standard lesson.
Frequently asked questions
-
How long does the course normally take?
The FI(A) training course at E-Flight Academy can be taken both full-time and part-time. Full-time training is preferred to get the most benefit. The full-time training takes 6 weeks. However, this depends on weather conditions and technical limitations.
For part-time students, E-Flight Academy recommends attending the course at least 3 days per week. If this is not achieved, the efficiency of the course may decrease and its duration may become longer than desirable.
The training consists of both flight and ground training, where each training flight must achieve a certain standard before moving on to the next flight. If the required standard is not achieved within the allocated minimum time, it may be necessary to repeat (part of) the training flight, which will likely lead to an extension of the course
